Since open discussion of homosexuality became possible, a significant number of gay-oriented websites have emerged in Russia. Various Internet resources provide basic information on homosexuality, give regular news updates and generally shape Russia`s gay community. However, there is a need to add another dimension to this Web discourse, one that seeks to stimulate discussion of more significant and not always obvious issues relating to homosexuality. The issues in question are derived from and located in the fields of politics, law, ethics, philosophy and social relations. In sum, this project is an attempt to add to the current Web discourse, to create a forum for discussion of such issues and to initiate a dialogue between the gay community and society at large. 

We believe our discussion forum to be an important and integral part of the project. Discussion is vital since it can pro-actively influence society: it can prompt individuals to reflect on a certain problem, to pay attention to alternative points of view and to form their own opinion. A forum for discussion is especially important given that the editors and authors of the site content might have conflicting views on certain political, philosophical and social issues. We see the project as a way of raising complex issues and stimulating reflection in new directions.

We invite authors and translators to contribute to the project and to help us implement its motto Peace to the Queers! ("Queerumir" is a pun in Russian as it rhymes with the Soviet slogan "Miru - mir!" (Peace to the World!)).
